Nealkoholová steatóza pečene je chronická choroba pečene s rastúcim výskytom v populácii. Autori zhrňujú poznatky o hlavnej príčine choroby – metabolickom syndróme, venujú sa epidemiológii, klinickému obrazu, diagnóze, prognóze a liečbe. Klinická závažnosť choroby spočíva v jej možnej progresii do cirhózy pečene.

Summary
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is an impairment of the liver that affects the general population with an increasing prevalence. The authors summarize knowledge about the main cause of disease – metabolic syndrome, epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, prognosis and therapy. The clinical importance of the disease is underlined by its progression to liver cirrhosis.
